Pictures?

If you took pictures at the first two competitions and would like to share them with me please either put them on a disc and give them to me at the gym or e-mail them to me.
Thank you

What a good weekend in Indy!!!

Scott and I are very proud of the girls! Not only did they do very well for their first major competition but they are starting to really come together as a team.

We did have 3 pts in deductions on Saturday and 2.5 pts in deductions on Sunday for stunt falls, so that hindered our placement with in our division. There were only 9 pts separating 1st place from 10th place in our division.

It is time to work hard and keep up attendance. We compete on Jan. 9th at Robert Morris for our bid to Baltimore Nationals. We must score high enough on the 9th to receive an invitation to compete in Baltimore.

Also as I am sure you noticed this weekend, tumbling is a large part of the routine. The more girls you have performing the skills the higher your score goes up and the higher you place in your division. Right now we have 7 girls doing standing back handsprings and 8 doing round off back handsprings. With 16 girls on the team that number needs to be higher if we expect to place higher. The gym offers several tumbling classes each week as well as private lessons and open gym on Fridays (free to competitive team members). Please encourage your daughters to get those tumbling skills.

This next month is going to be spent working on cleaning up the routine, building up stamina, and working on the girls energy and facials while performing.

A HUGE thank you to all the parents this weekend for the love and support you surround the entire team with! Words can't express how much it means to us to have you all working towards the greater good of the team! Thank you for the food this weekend, the taking in of kids that aren't your own, the hair spray, the booby pins, the pony tail holders, and anything else I am missing. You are WONDERFUL!!

So Thank You!!!

~Scott and Kaitlin

Excite Jam weekend update

Sorry - forgot to get a paper out last night.

Tonight is Nite at the Races, even if you are not using this as a fundraiser it is a fun night and a great way to get to know some of the other parents better.

Open gym tonight 5-8 (I will be there at 4:30), there is also child care at the gym tonight if you are going to Nite at the Races, it is $15/child.

I highly encourage team members to come into the gym tonight to work on the routine and to help out Jenna.

Jenna is a 9 year old girl who used to be a gymnast for Gymsport, she is filling in for Marra this weekend (Marra partially tore a ligament in her foot). Hopefully Jenna will be joining the team for good after this weekend! But regardless she needs help remembering the routine so as many girls as can come tonight to work with Jenna would be great!!

Practice tomorrow - 1-3:30. The girls are to come in practice gear. If they want to bring their competition gear they are welcome to get ready at the gym. We are meeting at the Peterson Events Center at 6pm. Please leave enough time to park and walk down the hill. With having you arrive at 6 I am not giving us much of a window to get down to warm ups, so please be IN the Peterson at 6 (not just parking at 6). If you don't live close to the gym you might want to bring everything with you and then just eat in Bridgeville.
There are a ton of different places:
Eat n Park
Bob Evans
CeeCee's Pizza
Sonic
Subway
Abry's
Wendy's
McDonalds

I think that is it! We had a pretty good practice last night!

Keep on encouraging the girls they are working hard!

Charleroi and Excite Jam!

Yea! Our first competition of the season is over with. It's usually the worst of the each season.

Scott and I think the girls did a good job! They have only known their routine for one month (today) and they have only had 6 hours of practice time as a full team with the routine.

We are happy with their performance today and know it will only get better!

JamFest this coming Saturday Nov. 14th at the Petersons Events Center, admission is free but you do have to pay for parking. As of now the girls are not scheduled to compete until around 7/ 7:30.

Our practice schedule for this coming week is as follows...

Monday 6-8
Thursday 6-8:30
Saturday 1-3:30

With 7 more hours of full team practice on the routine, just think how much better we will look!!! Please make sure your child is on time to all practices.

As parents of a competitive athlete, this week I would really like for you to make sure your cheerleader is drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit, veggies, protein, and carbs. Every evening please work with your cheerleader on her cheer and dance motions as well as her splits and flexiblity, especially if your daughter is a flyer.

One of the biggest thing the judges said we lacked was smiles and enthusiasm, please encourage your cheerleader to work on her facials in front of a mirror this week as well as doing facials while they review the cheer and dance.

On the day of competition please be supportive of you cheerleader and the entire team, we all need to make sure they know how proud of them we all are!

Keep up the Great Work Marvels!!

I just wanted to send out a quick reminder to everyone that our performance at the Scott Pool is this coming Monday, the 27th at 4:00. We could still use a few volunteers to help transport equipment.

We will be staying at the Scott Pool after we perform to swim and to have a picnic. There are only 4 families signed up on the picnic food list, so please help out and bring some food! Here is what we have so far:
watermelon and cantaloupe
dessert
3 2 liters of pop
chips
hamburger and hot dog buns

This will be a very sad picnic if no one else brings food! If you have already signed up, thank you, it is much appreciated.

Optionals, Marvels and Level 3 do not have practice on Monday after the performance. Optionals and Level 3 make up will be held on Friday, July 31st only for those who attend the performance. The Marvels make up date will be announced by Coach Kaitlin.

If you have any questions, please let me know. See you there!

Coach Tanya

E-mail Dated 7/22/09

Dear Marvels Parents,
Please don't forget to sign up for fundraising opportunities if you haven't already. We have only had responses from four parents so far (Thank you!), and we really need everyone's participation to make this year's fundraising a success. Please email me at Tanya@nauticom.net to volunteer for different fundraisers.

If you plan to join in on the Basket of Cheer, your bottle should be turned in next week. Last year this great fundraiser netted nearly $50 per participant! Let's try to top that this year!

Also, if you have not yet signed up for TIPS training, do so immediately. These training dates are the only dates available this year, and if you would like to help out at the Pitt and Steelers games you must go through this training. Again, the dates are:

July 21
July 27
July 29
August 3
August 6
All classes will begin at 6:00 PM and last about 2 hours.

If you have any questions, please let me know!
Thank you,
Tanya

Welcome to the Gymsport Marvels 2009-2010 season!

Gymsport All Star Cheer News

Our training has begun and all our amazing athletes are working very hard to learn lots of new and exciting skills for the upcoming season. Please don't forget to tell your friends about this great opportunity and let them know about both our full time program and the FREE cheer program which will begin again in September.

As we all know, we will be participating in more competitions this upcoming season. The team(s) and dates will be set and confirmed by the end of summer. We anticipate competitions will start in November; our final competition should be in March or April.

So it is time to start raising funds for all the FUN to begin…….

Just to confirm - we are in the process of becoming a non-profit. The more hands-on we are as a group the better this will be for everyone. Once we find enough willing parents we will be working events such as Pitt Games and Steelers Games! To do this we need each person to be individually TIPS trained. Listed below are all the dates and times for training. Please be sure to attend one of the training sessions (and let Tanya know which one so we can confirm a space for you). Anyone and everyone should attend TIPS training - Mom, Dad, any family members with work permits.

This is a great opportunity for the group as a whole to earn larger sums of money without selling to friends and coworkers! I know we have had a lot of interest in that sort of fundraiser, so let's take advantage of this great opportunity! If we take 10 people to a Pitt game we are guaranteed $750.00 as a group! At Steeler games we should make 8% of sales. It is not unusual for 2 booths (4 – 6 people) to sell over $10,000.00, which is a group total of $800.00! In addition, both of these events also allow you to earn tips - which also are added to the group total.

Aramark Training for Steeler Games

Upcoming Team Training:

Participants should be able to park in Green Lot 21, which is located on Reedsdale Ave. If this lot is full, then parking can be found in the lots surrounding Heinz Field (there may be a fee). Please enter the building through Gate C (the game day entrance for fans). If the gate is not open, there is a buzzer that will alert security that someone is there. Once you enter Heinz Field there will be someone to direct you to the training location. Training is usually conducted in one of the Club Box areas.

Training dates are:
July 21
July 27
July 29
August 3
August 6

All classes will begin at 6:00 PM and last about 2 hours.
Other Fundraising Opportunities

Listed below are fundraisers that need your help! Please contact me to sign up for as many as you can. WE NEED EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN AT LEAST 75% OF THESE EVENTS AND FUNDRAISERS. Let me which one you can help with, which ones you would like to run, and which ones you are unable to do due to prior commitments. We are always looking for more fundraisers, so if you know a good one SHOUT it out.

Please note - if we do not hear from you, you will be assigned duties!

August - LABOR DAY BASKET OF CHEER

Bottles need to be turned in on or before August 14th. Be sure to label your bottle to be eligible for tickets.

I would also love to hear some ideas for child-friendly fundraisers that will also create a team/family bonding experience.
For example:
Cosmic Bowling
Bucket of Balls/Golfing Range
Gymsport Sleep Over (gym will donate percentage from team income...)
Thank you! I look forward to this fantastic season full of great opportunities and experiences. The coaches and I truly feel that this group of parents is one of the most wonderful groups we have ever had, and we are very happy to have the chance to work together this season.

Be sure to let me know via email which TIPS training day you would like to attend or about events you wish to sign up to help/run.

Again Cheers,

Tanya

Performance Opportunities

I am in need of some girls to perform at the annual end of the year Show Case at the gym.

It is on May 22nd (friday), I would need the girls there by 6pm, we would perform around 6:30.
We would be doing the cheer from this past season, as well as some tumbling and some stunting, possibly jumps and dance too.

Please let me know if you can be there on the 22nd.

I also need some girls to perform throughout the summer at different festivals and parades, if you are interested please let me know.

One last thing...

If you know of a parade or festival in your community or at your church, please feel free to get us set up to perform there as well, or let us know the contact info so that we can set it up.

The more we get out into the community the better chance we have at growing the program!

Current fundraisers:
Joe Corbi's - We have order forms at the gym for you to sell pizza, cookie dough, pies, cheesecakes, etc. from Joe Corbi's! Orders and money are due on Monday, May 11th and you can pick up your items on Monday, May 18th after 6:00.
Anyone who would like to buy some of their products but are not interested in selling are welcome to order using the order form on the bulletin board in front of the office.
Basket of Cheer - Anyone interested in participating in a Basket of Cheer fundraiser is encouraged to contact me at tanya@nauticom.net. Unfamiliar with this awesome fundraiser? Have any other fundraising ideas? Let us know! We'd love to hear your suggestions.

Signs

Your daughter is getting supplies to make a sign for her spirit sister for Nationals this weekend.
If you have a younger daughter please help her in the making of her sign. Take your time and do a nice job.

Tanya and The Coaching staff are providing each girl with a piece of poster board, red glitter, gold glitter, gold star stickers, yellow small stars, and red shimmer streamers. On Friday the girls will also be getting purple, gold, and black glitter stars, these will be in different sizes, each girl will get 6 stars. There will also be red and purple ribbon available for you to take with you.

Please feel free to use what you want and not use what you don’t want, also feel free to add your own stuff.

Once again you will be putting the name of your spirit sister on the sign you are making. You will then give the sign to your spirit sister’s parents for them to hold up while Gymsport competes.

On Friday the girls will also be bringing home a bag of spirit gear for parents, siblings, and fans to use while at Nationals this weekend. It is yours to keep from Tanya and the coaching staff as a Thank You for a wonderful season!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Hampton and then some

I was very impressed with the way the girls joined together as a team on Saturday to over come the circumstances that were placed upon them. Two weeks ago Meadow broke her arm, and the day before the competition Kaitlin injured her ankle. We were also down Hannah B. But the girls worked together and pulled it off. I am very proud of the way they all pulled together and showed amazing team work.

We will have only 3 practices until Nationals. Originally we had set practice on Friday the 27th with Youth practicing first and then Jr.s practicing second, we will be switching that around to accommodate dance classes, gymnastics practices, and school dances. Please note Friday March 27th Jrs will practice 5:30-7 and Youth will practice 7-8:30. I need all the girls at all three practices. Anyone who misses a practice will not be permitted to compete. Also we will be having a team meeting and practice on Saturday night March 28th, we will go over judges score sheets and video from earlier in the day, time TBA.

I think we could all see the girls were not in top form on Saturday, this is because we did not have a full team practice between the IUP competition and the Hampton competition, when one girl misses it effects the entire team.

Did you notice the Yellow shirts the coaching staff was wearing on Saturday? Want one for yourself or your cheerleader? Get your orders to Coach Kaitlin by Tuesday at 10 AM to ensure delivery by Nationals. The profit made from the sale of these shirts will be used to buy supplies for all the girls to make signs for Nationals, as well as to buy spirit items for the Gymsport Fans. The more shirts you buy the less you pay per shirt. The Petersen's Events Center is a large venue and the yellow shirts will stand out for the girls to be able to see their Marvelous Fan better!

X-Out Toss

LEVEL 3 STUNTS
A. A spotter is required for all extended stunts.
B. Single leg extended stunts are allowed.
C. Twisting mounts and transitions:
1. Twisting mounts and transitions are allowed up to one twist by the top person.
2. Full twisting transitions may land or originate from prep level or below only. (ex:
full up to an extended stunt would not be allowed.)
Clarification: ¾ up to an extended stunt or down from an extended stunt is allowed.
3. Full twisting transitions to/from an extended stunt are not allowed.
Clarification: a half twist performed with an additional half turn by the bases to an
extended position would be illegal if performed simultaneously.
D. During transitions, at least one base must remain in contact with the top person.
E. Free flipping stunts and transitions are not allowed.
F. No stunt, pyramid, or individual may move over or under another separate stunt, pyramid or
individual (e.g. shoulder sits walking under prep).
G. Prep level or above pendulum and pendulum style transitional stunts where the top
person falls away from the bases requires three stationary catchers, at least two of
which are not original bases. Physical contact must be maintained with all of the
original base(s).
H. Single based split catches are not allowed.
I. Single based double awesomes/cupies require a separate spotter for each top person.
J. L3 Stunts - Release Moves
1. No release moves allowed other than those allowed at Level 3 in "Dismounts" and
"Tosses." Exception: Single based, coed style toss stunts to prep level are allowed.
2. Release moves may not land in a prone position.
3. Release moves must return to original bases.
4. Helicopters are not allowed.
5. A single full twisting log/barrel roll is allowed as long as it starts and ends in a cradle
position.
Clarification: Log/Barrel roll must return to original bases and may not include any skill
other than the twist (ex: no kick full twists).
6. Release moves may not intentionally travel.
K. L3 Stunts - Inversions
1. No inverted stunts above shoulder level. (Exception: Double base suspended forward roll
dismount to a cradle or the performing surface is allowed) The connection and support of
the top person with the base(s) must be at shoulder level or below.
2. Downward inversions are only allowed below prep level and must be assisted by at least
two bases positioned at the head and shoulder area. Top person must maintain contact
with an original base. Clarification: The stunt may not pass through prep level and then
become inverted below prep level (the momentum of the top person coming down is the
primary safety concern).
Clarification: Catchers must physically catch the top person at the head and
shoulder area.
LEVEL 3 PYRAMIDS
A. Pyramids must follow Level 3 “Stunts” and "Dismounts" rules and are allowed up to 2 high.
B. Top persons must receive primary support from a base.
C. Extended single leg stunts may not brace or be braced by any other extended stunts.
D. No stunt, pyramid, or individual may move over or under another separate stunt, pyramid or
individual (ex: shoulder sits walking under prep).
E. L3 Pyramids - Release Moves
1. During a pyramid transition, a top person may pass above 2 persons high while in direct
physical contact with at least one two person at prep level or below.
2. Top person must remain in direct arm-to-arm contact with at least two different top
persons at prep level or below.
Clarification:
a. Being braced on one side with both arms and the other side by hand-foot connection
is NOT allowed.
b. If top person is braced on each side with arm-to-arm connection and a THIRD bracer
with hand-foot connection, the skill would be legal.
3. These release transitions may not involve changing bases.
4. These transitions must be caught by at least 2 catchers.
a. Both catchers must be stationary.
b. Both catchers must maintain visual contact with the top person throughout the
entire transition.
F. L3 Pyramids - Inversions
1. Must follow L3 Stunt Inversions rules
G. L3 Pyramids - Release Moves w/ Braced Inversions
1. Pyramid transitions may not involve inversions while released from the bases.
LEVEL 3 DISMOUNTS
A. Cradles from single based stunts at prep level and above must have a separate spotter with
at least one hand/arm supporting the head and shoulder area through the cradle.
B. Cradles from multi-based stunts at prep level and above must have two catchers and a
separate spotter with at least one hand/arm supporting the head and shoulder area
through the cradle.
C. Dismounts to the performing surface from stunts and pyramids at prep level and above must
be assisted by an original base.
D. Only straight pop downs, basic straight cradles and quarter turns are allowed from any single
leg stunt.
E. Up to 1-1/4 twists are allowed from any two leg stunts.
F. Up to 1 trick allowed during a dismount from any two leg stunt.
G. No free flipping dismounts allowed.
H. Tension drops/rolls of any kind are not allowed.
I. When cradling single based double awesomes/cupies, 2 catchers must catch each top
person. Catchers and bases must be stationary prior to the initiation of the dismount.
LEVEL 3 TOSSES
A. Tosses are allowed up to a total of 4 tossing bases. One base must be behind the top person
during the toss and may assist the top person into the toss.
B. Tosses must be performed from ground level and must land in a cradle position. Top person
must be caught in a cradle position by at least 3 original bases one of which is positioned at
the head and shoulder area of the top person. Bases must remain stationary during the toss
(i.e. No intentional traveling tosses).
C. Flipping, inverted or traveling tosses are not allowed.
D. No stunt, pyramid, individual, or, prop may move over or under a toss, and a toss may not be
thrown over, under, or through stunts, pyramids, individuals, or props.
E. Up to 1 trick allowed during a toss. Twisting tosses may not exceed 1 twisting rotation. (Legal:
toe-touch, ball out, pretty girl, etc…) (Illegal: Switch kick, pretty girl-kick, double toe-touch)
Clarification: The ‘arch’ does not count as a trick. Exception: a Ball X is allowed at this level.
F. During a twisting toss, no skill other than the twist is allowed. (e.g. kick fulls, ½ twist toe
touches, etc… are not allowed)
