What else is new?
We are getting new uniforms – YEAH!
No bellies showing, great new custom design, shorts instead of skirts
Our booster group will be fully non-profit – WooWho!

The team will be going on a retreat in late August – Hooray!!
Team bonding and trust activities, focused time to learn the competition routine and drill skills, free time for the team to just have fun outside of practice.

Battle Notes
What a great weekend! A HUGE thank you to the parents who provided breakfast and lunch, rides, and hair supplies. You all continue to amaze me with the unfailing support! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!
For only the second year of the program I am very happy for the performance the girls put in this weekend. 14th place, not so bad. With out deductions, we would have place 11th - even better!
We now need to look ahead to our last two competitions WSF nationals and JamNationals. I would really enjoy another national champion banner to add to the others at the gym!

To get a practices time for Friday night we had to pay $100, if each family could give me $7 that would cover the $100.

We are expecting over 4000 fans and athletes at this competition. We also recommend that coaches advise their families to leave the competition area after awards to allow spectators from other teams competing later in the day have adequate seating. We offer “Groupie” VIP standing area in front of the stage so you have front row viewing of your favorite athletes. We ask that you coordinate with you parents so they are aware to look for the entrance and exit sides and do so quickly both ways so we can keep the show running on time.
Spectator Fees

Children ages 5 – 17: $8
Children under 5: No Charge
Seniors (55 up): $8
Coaches please inform your parents that if they do not pay the admission price they will not be allowed in the main arena.
National Championship Awards
At our one day Nationals, team winners will receive a card worth 15 points if their team wins a National Championship. These cards can be taken to the National Champion Store and exchanged for merchandise. Items in the booth have different point values which allow athletes and coaches to have choices in their National Champion merchandise. Points from one card cannot be combined with points from another card (in the case of crossovers that win on two teams) but they will be able to pick out two different pieces of National Champion merchandise. You may also combine points with accepted forms of payment to upgrade your purchase at the Champion Store. Soloists and specialties do not receive cards if they win but are able to purchase merchandise at the Champion Store. Winners of Grand Champion will be given a special card with no point value to come and pick up a special Grand Champion prize. Please encourage your athletes to come by and take a look at the merchandise in the Champion Store and talk to the staff. If you win a National Championship with your team, please make sure to pick up your athletes cards backstage after the finish of the award ceremony.
Photo/Video
Every moment of the event will be captured by Premiere Photo and Video. Photographers will take team photos in the performance area and action shots will be taken for each team as they perform. Spectators are allowed to Video Tape at ALL GLCC events.
Photos can be viewed and purchased at the booth located near the front of the vendor area. Photos will also be available for purchase online after the event.

Frustration at Girard
After a great warm up, the Knockouts fell a bit short on the floor.
All though the girls scored well over 15 points higher than the first place team, 23 points in deductions took the Knockouts down into second place.
The judges loved our routine and were pleased with the girls keeping up the energy even with the stunt falls.
I would like to single out a few girls for their extra effort this weekend:
Erin - even with a fever of over 101 Erin went out on the floor and gave it her all!
Grace - on Thursday Grace was asked to step into Lindsey's stunts (Lindsey has an injured wrist and hip). Grace stepped in fearlessly and did a great job!
Caitylnn - before two weeks ago Caitlynn had never cheered. Due to a team members academic suspension WPIAL gymnast Caitlynn agreed to join the team and take over the open spot. In 4 short team practices and two open gyms Caitlynn learned how to be a cheerleader as well as learn the 2:30min. routine. Caitlynn, you did awesome out there on Saturday!
The key to keeping stunts in the air...
having all team members at all practices.

Marvels Practice Team - Tuesdays
I just wanted to make you aware of a cheer class that we are offing at Gymsport starting on Tuesday. Because it is starting mid month, January tuition would be prorated to half of the normal costs for the month of January.
The information is below, if you have any questions please let me know.
Gymsport Marvels Practice Team
Tuesdays 6:30-8
$67.50/month tuition (sorry no sibling discounts) (Knockouts only pay $45/month)
Team members receive great discount benefits for other tumbling classes:
$45 one hour of tumbling a week, $60 unlimited tumbling a week
Mondays 8-9, Tuesday 5-6, 8-9, Wednesday 6-7
Free open gym on Wednesday nights and Friday nights
The girls will perform in the Spring gym showcase as well as be invited to the end of the season competitive team banquet.
You have the option of fundraising your $67.50/month as well as building up your account for next season if your daughter decides to join the full time program.
We will work on:
Motion precision to improve cheer and dance skills
Advancing jump height and flexibility
Cartwheels, round offs, front and back walkovers, as well as back handsprings and other advanced tumbling skills
Proper stunt technique and strength training
The goals for the practice team will be to gain the skills necessary to dazzle at any school tryout as well as to seamlessly join the members of the current full time cheer team for the start of the new season in May.
Once again please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see you Tuesday!

Freezing Friday
The gym will still be open tonight for open gym if you are wanting to come in and work out 5-8.
Times have changed a bit for Saturday...
I need all cheerleaders at Robert Morris no later than 10:30 am. You must be fully uniformed, make uped, with hair done and bow in by 10:30. If you need help with this please let me know so we can arrange to meet earlier. Our scheduled warm up time is 11:30, Our scheduled performance time is 11:50.
I would suggest that you sew your hair bow into your pony tail as we did in Indy. please make sure you sew it threw the small hole in the clip base then threw the fastener on one side, then threw the pony tail holder and pony tail, then threw the small hole on the other side of the clip. The first step insures that your daughters clip is sewn shut and will not come open while she is cheering.
I have been asked to let everyone know that a group of parents are planning on going out to eat after the competition. If you are interested in joining in on the fun please contact Stacey - you can text or call her at 724 350 4262 or e-mail her at staceyalt@msn.com
The girls had a good practice last night! I look forward to seeing them on the competition floor tomorrow!! Once again I would like to say how proud I am of Marissa and Kayleigh for stepping up and doing what needed to be done for the pyramid this week, Great Job Girls!!!!
I hope to see you tonight, if not I will see you tomorrow morning!

"It's not the will to win that matters - everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters." Paul "Bear" Bryant
I came across that quote today and it really hit home. We have not had a full team practice since before Indy. I already know we will not have everyone on Wednesday and I am not sure who will show up on Monday and Thursday. We are a team and when even one team member misses a practice the entire team suffers at competition. I want the girls to enjoy cheering at Gymsport but that is not the main reason we are a part of a competitive cheerleading team. And let me tell you, it’s a lot more fun when we are winning. I just want to prepare all of you for the possibility of us coming in last place on Saturday as well as the possibility of us not receiving our bid to nationals. I say this, not because I do not have faith in the girls or in the routine, but simply because I feel we are not as prepared, as a team, as we could and should be. As of now we are against 4 other teams on Saturday.
I need the girls to be at the competition by 11am – please make sure you leave time to park and walk to the venue from the parking lot.
We are scheduled to compete around 12:20 and awards should be over by 2.
If this changes I will let you know, these are only tentative times.
